Steps to Filing Your Homestead Exemption

It'll be done before you know it!

1

Download the Form

The application form can be downloaded from your appraisal district's web site, or directly from the State Comptroller's office here.

Links to several local appraisal district web sites are included above

2

File the Form

Fill out the form and mail it to your appraisal district with the required documentation. This is typically a copy of your driver's license or state ID - the address must match the address of the property you are claiming as your homestead, with limited exceptions.

3

Enjoy the Savings!

You only have to file the form once to enjoy the tax savings year after year. If you become eligible for other exemptions in the future (for example, once you turn 65) you would file for the relevant exemption at that time.
